5 Approachable Swaps for a Low-Waste Laundry Room
When it comes to living more mindfully, even the laundry room offers easy opportunities for change. With just a few swaps, you can cut down on plastic, save energy, and protect your clothes (and the planet) in the process.
1. Swap dryer sheets for wool dryer balls 🐑✨
Not only do they reduce waste, they also speed up drying time. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil for a fresh scent. Shoutout to my friends at Bamboo Switch for their beautiful wool sets.
2. Air dry when you can 🌬️👕
Workout clothes, delicates, or anything prone to shrinkage love to be air dried. Plus, clothes dryers use about 6% of a home’s electricity [According to the U.S. Department of Energy], so even partial line drying adds up to big energy savings.
3. Switch to low-waste detergent 🧼♻️
Skip the giant plastic jugs! Try a tablet detergent (like Blueland, which comes in a compostable bag with a refillable tin) or laundry sheets packaged in recyclable cardboard.
4. Wash in cold water ❄️💧
Most clothes come out just as clean in cold water, while saving energy and helping fabrics last longer.
5. Try a microfiber filter or laundry bag 🧺🌊
Every wash cycle releases thousands of microplastics into our waterways. Using a filter or laundry bag helps catch these fibers before they escape. This swap is new to me and I’m stoked to give it a try with a bag from GUPPYFRIEND!
With less waste and lots of love,
