5 Approachable Swaps for a More Mindful Bathroom

When it comes to creating a more sustainable home, the bathroom is often overlooked - but it’s a space where small swaps can make a BIG difference. And good news: these changes are approachable, affordable, and many of them even feel like upgrades. 🛁✨

This round, we’re focusing on five simple swaps you can make today. (And yes, spoiler: bamboo is where it’s at. We’ll dive into why this material rocks in a future post, but for now, trust me when I say it’s durable, renewable, and endlessly useful.)

1. Reusable Makeup Remover Rounds → Instead of Single-Use Wipes

Those little wipes may feel convenient, but they add up quickly in both cost and landfill waste. Switch to reusable makeup remover rounds - they’re soft, washable, and last for years. I love the ones from Bamboo Switch (use code LIVEMINDFULLY for 10% off!).

2. Recycled or Bamboo Toilet Paper → Unless a Bidet is in Your Budget :)

Traditional TP is surprisingly resource-intensive and can be rough on your body, too (hello chemicals). Instead, opt for rolls made from recycled content or bamboo. Brands like Plant Paper and Who Gives a Crap are tree-free, better for the planet, and much nicer on your skin.

3. Bamboo Loofah → Instead of Plastic Mesh

Most shower loofahs are made from synthetic plastic mesh. A bamboo loofah works just as well, looks prettier hanging in your shower, and avoids the microplastics. Bonus! This one from Bamboo Switch is biodegradable.

4. Wood or Bamboo Q-Tips → Instead of Plastic

Another tiny item that adds up in the trash: plastic cotton swabs. Swap to wood or bamboo options instead. Bamboo Switch makes compostable versions that feel EXACTLY the same to use.

5. Refillable Hand Soap → Instead of Pump Bottles

Skip the single-use plastic pump bottles by refilling a glass or ceramic dispenser. I love tablet-based refills from Blueland — they’re waste-free (all parts of their packaging are designed to be industrially compostable), cost-effective, and come in beautiful scents.

Bonus Mindful Habits

Not every swap requires a new product — some of the most effective shifts are free.99:

  • Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth #easypeasy

  • Shorten your showers (or make them more fun by showering with your partner 😉)

🌿 That’s it for this round! These five swaps are just the beginning - there are so many more mindful bathroom upgrades to come (hello bamboo toothbrushes, shampoo bars, and even face wash).

And stay tuned: I’ll be doing a deep dive soon on why bamboo is such a superstar material in the sustainability world.

With less waste and lots of love,

Ali
